Ian Barber - Executive Director

Ian Barber, has been a life-long Oakland County resident in Madison Heights.  He has earned his B.S. in Political Science at Lake Superior State University. During his time up at Lake Superior State University, Ian was involved in the Political Science Club and the College Republicans. Ian’s senior year he was elected as the Fundraising/PR Chair of the Executive Board of the Political Science Club. Ian also wrote his Senior Thesis, “Painting Northern Michigan Red: Campaign Strategies for Republican Candidates” which analyzed the ways to get Republican candidates elected in the Northern Michigan area.

Ian got involved in the grassroots in 2010 by helping Dr. Dan Benishek for Michigan’s First Congressional District and Frank Foster for Michigan’s 107th State Representative District, both campaigns were very successful and were key races in helping both the State of Michigan and the United States in gaining Republican majorities in the legislature. After graduating from Lake Superior State University in 2012, Ian went on to be the Campaign Manager for Frank Foster during his race for his second term as State Representative.

After being Frank Foster’s Campaign Manager, Ian came back to Oakland County and started working for the Michigan Republican Party. Ian started as a Regional Field Director for Oakland County where he helped develop and organized fellow grassroots activists to help get-out-the-vote for the 2014 Gubernatorial Election. Ian soon became a State Regional Director with the Michigan Republican Party where he managed the Field Staff in Oakland County and the Central Michigan area which encompassed the counties that make up Michigan’s 4th Congressional District. Ian was also elected as a Precinct Delegate in the August 2014 Primary Election.

After the November 2014 election, Ian also spent the following month in Louisiana to help Congressman Bill Cassidy defeat Senator Mary Landrieu in the December Run-off election and continue the Republican majority in the US Senate.

Ian has now become the Executive Director for the Oakland County Republican Party and he plans to help the Republican candidates to victory in 2016. Ian is also looking forward to continuing the grassroots organization in Oakland County and building on it as well.
