Congressman Knollenberg Anti-Counterfeiting Bill Signed by President
Bush
Last
week, President Bush approved the “Stop Counterfeiting and Manufactured
Goods Act” sponsored by Congressman Joe Knollenberg.
The
Stop Counterfeiting and Manufactured Goods Act will protect Michigan
manufacturers, suppliers and consumers from unscrupulous and fraudulent
producers. Congressman Joe Knollenberg took critical action with everything
from fraudulent drugs to phony auto parts negatively affecting our markets and
jobs,.
As
Congressman Knollenberg said in connection with the signing ceremony, “This is
a good day for manufacturers in Michigan and across the country. This new law will bring some relief to the
manufacturers in our state by stopping the losses due to illegal
counterfeiting. And when we help these
manufacturers with their bottom line, we also help create and retain jobs.”
In
the past, fake products were destroyed, but not the equipment used to make
those products. The new Act requires
the destruction of equipment used in the production of counterfeit products.
Thank
you to Congressman Joe Knollenberg for sponsoring this new law, which will
protect Michigan residents and consumers.
We also congratulate the Michigan Republican Congressional delegation on
their support of this critical legislation.
Join the Republican Party and Be Happy
In
a recently released study conducted by the Pew Research Center, it has been
found that “Republicans are happier people than Democrats.” This is especially encouraging since the Pew
Research Center is known as a liberal-leaning organization. While I am sure this admission was difficult
to make, we already knew that Republicans are “happier people.” We invite all citizens -- and yes, even our
Democratic friends -- to join the Republican Party and “be happy.”
I
was pleased and honored to attend the Support Our Troops event at Waterford
Kettering High School on Sunday, March 26th. Congressman Joe
Knollenberg sponsored a resolution in the House of Representatives, which was
unanimously approved, declaring March 26th as Support Our Troops
Day.
Support
Our Troops Day is the brainchild of a 16-year old sophomore at Waterford
Kettering High School named Alexandra McGregor. Her persistence and dedication resulted in this great day to
honor our troops on land, sea and in the air. Over 800 patriotic citizens,
including parents of troops stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan and around the
world, veterans, and Waterford Kettering students, attended the event. In my over 20 years of public service, I
have never been to such a compelling event.
In particular, the remarks by Bob Hadley, whose son recently returned
from Iraq, were very poignant. He spoke
of the daily waiting as a parent and the things that he did “to get by.” Every day, his thoughts and prayers were
with his son. We need to do the same
for our servicemen and servicewomen.
This
great event closed with the tolling of the bells for those who have made the supreme
sacrifice for our country in Iraq and Afghanistan from the state of
Michigan. The entire evening was both
joyful and sobering, uplifting and thought provoking.
Our
special thanks go to Alexandra McGregor and the Waterford Kettering High School
community. Special thanks also to
County Commissioner Eileen Kowall, who was approached early by Alexandra
McGregor and worked diligently to assist her in this event. In addition to Congressman Knollenberg,
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard, Senator Nancy Cassis, State
Representative Fran Amos, County Commissioners Chuck Moss, Tom Middleton and
John Scott, and White Lake Township Supervisor Mike Kowall were in
attendance. Congratulations to all on
this outstanding evening.
