Chairman’s Corner
House Republican on Course
to “Get Michigan Working”
Congratulations to Michigan House Speaker Craig DeRoche (R-Novi) and the House Republicans for their outstanding efforts to “Get Michigan Working.” In the past 60 days the House has passed or proposed critical legislation to stimulate new investment in Michigan and create jobs. These legislative initiatives include:
· 21st Century Jobs Fund: Creates a $1 Billion jobs trust fund to be invested in new loan guarantees, venture capital funds and competitive edge technologies. The legislation is specifically designed to attract emerging technological markets such as life sciences, homeland security and defense, advanced automotive research, forestry and alternate energy. The plan would require disclosure of campaign contributions to prevent political favoritism.
· $1 Billion Tax Relief Package: This overdue tax cut is for our Michigan job providers. Tax cuts will be available to more than 33,000 small businesses. Tax burdens on payroll and equipment are reduced. The Single Business Tax is reduced from 1.9 to 1.7 percent!
· Job Provider Bill of Rights: A 12 bill package to reduce bureaucratic costs for Michigan businesses and cutting red tape that strangles Michigan job providers. For example, this package protects taxpayers from retroactive regulations and letter rulings issued by the Michigan Department of Treasury. That’s the way to spell R-E-L-I-E-F!
Our thanks to Speaker DeRoche and our House Republicans for their leadership to “Get Michigan Working.” With our economy stuck in last place nationally, we in Oakland County appreciate these outstanding efforts to create jobs, our economy and bring much needed tax relief. We urge passage of these bills by the Michigan Senate and approval by the Governor with all due speed. Michigan’s economy and citizens can’t wait!
